As a Senior Actuarial Advisor, Model Validation, you will play a key role in independently validating and challenging models deemed critical and important to the organization. You will actively contribute to the development, implementation, and maintenance of the company’s model risk governance framework, in an environment where intellectual rigor and independent judgment are essential.

 

What you’ll accomplish with us

As a Senior Actuarial Advisor, Model Validation, you will be at the heart of our mission. Your key responsibilities include:

 

  • Perform independent validation of complex and critical models, including in-depth reviews of conceptual soundness, assumptions, design testing, limitations, and associated controls.

  • Constructively challenge methodological choices and model results through ongoing dialogue with development teams and senior experts.

  • Ensure models meet business needs and are fit for purpose while complying with regulatory and internal requirements.

  • Review model performance and optimal use.

  • Develop tools, as needed, to compare and reproduce model results for validation purposes.

  • Identify and assess risks related to new or emerging models resulting from changes in the business environment.

  • Prepare detailed validation reports outlining findings, limitations, issues, and recommendations, and present them to relevant stakeholders.

  • Monitor remediation plans and ensure recommendations are closed within established timelines.

  • Contribute to the evolution of model validation practices, procedures, and standards within the organization.

  • Participate in the independent review of ESCAP and TCM reports for various Group entities.

  • Act as a technical and intellectual reference in model validation within the team.

 

 

What could accelerate your success in this role

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Holds a university degree in actuarial science.

  • Has a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in advanced modeling, including at least 3 years in model validation, in the life insurance and/or P&C insurance sector.

  • Is a member of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) or is actively pursuing actuarial certification with demonstrated progress.

  • Demonstrates strong critical thinking, analytical skills, and professional judgment, enabling them to challenge models developed by internal experts.

  • Is comfortable discussing, debating, and influencing stakeholders at various organizational levels.

  • Has an advanced ability to quickly understand new models, platforms, and methodologies, and to reproduce complex calculations from first principles.

  • Stands out for strong analytical, synthesis, and communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Is proficient with quantitative tools: advanced spreadsheets, databases, mathematical software, and programming languages.

  • Has a strong understanding of insurance products, actuarial practices, and regulatory expectations related to model risk management.

  • Has an advanced level of English proficiency, as the role requires interacting with English-speaking collaborators and regularly producing documentation in English.

The typical hiring range for this position is between CAD $119,978 and $169,000 per year; the base salary offered may vary depending on knowledge, skills, years of experience, and internal equity related to the role.
