Summer Student, Data, Analytics & Reporting

We are looking for a motivated and technically skilled summer student to support the evolution of PPI’s reporting and analytics platform. This role is ideal for a 3rd or 4th year student enrolled in an applied, hands‑on program in data analytics, business intelligence, information systems, or a related field. The summer student will work on meaningful, practical initiatives aligned to PPI’s analytics strategy.

This is a contract position over the summer term for an expected duration of around 4 months.

Responsibilities:

Platform Maintenance & Enhancements

  • Update, maintain, and enhance existing Power BI dashboards and reports

  • Optimize data models, DAX calculations, and report performance

  • Improve and standardize data flows, data sets, and query logic

  • Support version upgrades, transitions, and cleanup activities on the analytics platform

Process Improvements & User Experience

  • Support usability improvements (layout, navigation, consistency, accessibility)

  • Contribute to data visualization and storytelling enhancements

  • Conduct light user research or feedback sessions as needed (e.g., identifying pain points)

Automation & Power Platform Support

  • Assist with building or improving Power Automate flows

  • Support simple Power Apps enhancements or component updates

  • Help document workflows, data sources, naming conventions, and governance guidelines

Analysis & Business Support

  • Work with the Data, Analytics & Reporting team to gather requirements

  • Support ad-hoc data cleanup, validation, and quality assurance tasks

Job Knowledge / Work Experience:

  • Experience using Power BI for data modeling, DAX, performance tuning, and report design and visualization

  • Experience with Power Apps and Power Automate

  • Experience using Excel for analysis and reporting purposes

  • Ability to use data storytelling and visualization techniques

  • Knowledge of UX/UI fundamentals

  • Strong analytical mindset, curiousity, and problem-solving abilities

  • Exposure to AI, machine learning, or predictive analytics considered an asset

  • Familiarity with SQL or data querying considered an asset

  • Demonstrated time management skills

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and self-manage

  • Strong communication skills in virtual environments

  • Proven ability to build strong relationships in a virtual environment

  • Proven ability to spot sales opportunities and align appropriate resources

  • Ability to adhere to compliance legislation and guidelines

  • Knowledge of financial services industry

  • Knowledge of Teams, Outlook, excel considered an asset

  • Ability to manage emotion and impulses to absorb constructive feedback

  • Ability to manage various personalities and situations

  • Ability to track and work efficiently while being a team player to drive results for all of PPI

  • Understanding of the regulatory environment within: IIROC, MFDA, CU and PM firms as well as various provincial insurance regulators considered and asset

Education, Certifications or Licenses:

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program

  • Current life license or working toward

  • LOMA courses, CHS, CLU, CFP, CFA, CSC, SWIM considered an asset

This role is for a new position. The expected salary range for this position starts at $23 an hour and will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and skill set.
