What you’ll accomplish with us
As a Senior Underwriting Consultant, you’ll be at the core of our mission. Here are the main responsibilities:
- Serve as a strategic advisor and coach to underwriters across all experience levels, strengthening expertise, judgment, and professional autonomy
- Provide expert guidance on complex, high‑risk, and grey‑area cases, including medical, financial, and holistic risk assessment
- Lead knowledge transfer through structured training, guideline interpretation, and support of underwriting initiatives and standards
- Contribute to underwriting quality and consistency through participation in complex case reviews, co‑signatures, escalations, and audit activities
- Oversee workload distribution and case flow to proactively identify risks, service impacts, and operational inefficiencies
- Partner with underwriting leadership to address performance challenges, manage capacity pressures, and support service objectives
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying process simplification opportunities, reducing rework, and providing insight on procedural or system gaps
- Act as a connector across underwriting, management, and partners by supporting change initiatives, ensuring alignment, and sharing best practices to strengthen organizational capability

We’re looking for someone who:
- Is known for their strong underwriting expertise and solid judgment in medical, financial, and holistic risk assessment
- Stands out for their ability to coach, mentor, and influence underwriters effectively without direct authority
- Demonstrates strong capability in handling complex files, escalations, and sensitive underwriting decisions with confidence
- Is recognized for their clear, pragmatic communication style and their ability to balance hands‑on support with a strategic, continuous‑improvement mindset
- Has at least 7 years of experience in underwriting and risk assessment within a regulated insurance environment
- Advanced level of English and French proficiency, as the role involves providing coaching and guidance, handling complex underwriting cases and escalations, participating in operational and change initiatives, and collaborating with underwriters, leaders, and partners across Canada on a regular basis in both languages.

The typical hiring range for this position is between $80 276 and $115 371 CAD per year; the base salary offered may vary depending on knowledge, skills, years of experience, and internal equity related to the role.
