Team Leader, Investments – Western Canada

The primary focus of the Team Leader, Investments is to ensure the investment team’s service levels to advisors are maintained and to effectively facilitate the accurate, compliant and timely processing of segregated fund trades. 

The Team Leader will supervise, and mentor assigned Investments staff, fostering collaboration and a high performance culture that delivers indispensable service, consistently meets or exceeds service level targets and adheres to national processes. 

The Team Leader’s accountabilities also include organizing, monitoring and optimizing the team’s work to ensure tasks are completed accurately and on time.  The Team Leader will work closely with the Manager, National Investments to assist in the accomplishment of team and department objectives.  

In additional to leadership responsibilities the Team Leader actively participates in day-to-day operations by processing work alongside the team as needed to manage volumes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-going supervision to the Investments Team by monitoring workflow and ensuring tasks are completed accurately and on time, setting clear expectations and conducting performance reviews, addressing performance issues promptly and constructively, managing attendance, vacation scheduling and approvals.

  • Ensure that there is appropriate backup for team members during absences and as volumes require.

  • Manage and maintain weekly metrics for Operation’s leadership team.

  • Partner with Manager, National Investments to oversee the recruitment of new staff.

  • Oversee and support structure training and development initiatives supporting skill building that aligns with staff, team and organizational goals.

  • Provide coaching and mentorship to team members to support ongoing development and active engagement.

  • Work with the Manager, National Investments to develop & implement plans to effectively accomplish department objectives/SMART goals.

  • Ensure the team assumes full ownership of assigned files and quality of data by identifying and prioritizing urgent cases and proactively resolving issues that could delay file progression.

  • Provide support to the team with regards to technical issues, daily investment trading and general processing questions.

  • In conjunction with the Manager, National Investments, coordinate and work with software vendors and FundServ to support any system upgrades or releases. Ensure all testing is completed in advance of the release and all investment staff are prepared and trained on any changes, if necessary.

  • Look for efficiency opportunities and/or service improvements and work to incorporate them into national processes. Leverage tools and technology wherever possible.

  • Maintain a high degree of industry and product knowledge, understanding the competitive market, and remaining current on industry trends and initiatives.

  • Establish and foster relationships with carrier partners and advisors to support and enhance PPI’s service related to processing investment products.

  • Facilitate the processing of segregated funds, GICs and other investment products with insurance carriers ensuring process protocols and service standards are consistently met.

  • Track and follow-up on pending transfers with carriers.

  • Perform immediate follow-up with advisors regarding missing information, supporting documentation, information discrepancies and unclear instructions.

  • Effectively resolve issues, questions or complaints as they pertain to investments.

  • Establish and facilitate new client accounts in the WealthServ Investment System.

  • Additional responsibilities, duties and special projects as identified.

Education, Experience and Skills:

  • A minimum of 5-7 years' experience in the investment industry

  • Industry designation(s) (FLMI, ACS, AIAA) desirable

  • Previous experiencing in the supervision/leadership/mentoring of staff

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to work within and promote a team-based environment to reach department objectives and goals

  • Expert organizational and time management skills with proven ability to handle high volumes of work and tight deadlines

  • Demonstrated ability to organize self and others while handling multiple priorities

  • Superior interpersonal skills with proven ability to develop and maintain relationships

  • Creative problem solver with highly developed critical thinking skills

  • Proven accuracy, attention to detail and data entry skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to represent self, office and organization in a professional, positive manner at all times

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in a professional manner

  • Knowledge of WealthServ and Microsoft Office programs; Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint in particular

  • Bilingual in French and English is an asset.

The expected salary range for this position starts at $60,000 and will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and skill set.
