iA Capital Markets/ Location: Calgary, AB (primary) or Toronto, ON or Montreal, QC

The Equity Research Associate will assist an experienced Healthcare and Biotech team, in conducting fundamental research on public and private companies, and the overall industry and broader economy, in order to produce investment reports, recommendations and earnings forecasts.

The candidate will collect financial, economic and other statistical data from various sources including Bloomberg, Refinitiv, government agencies, issuer filings, trade journals, databases and web-based queries. Data collected will be entered into Excel to assist in building financial forecast models, charts, tables and other outputs necessary for the production of research reports. The Equity Research Associate is also expected to carry out qualitative research, competitive industry forces, issuer competitive advantages and management quality. The position requires an in-depth knowledge of the therapeutic areas by the coverage companies, but also non-scientific knowledge of the drug mechanisms, clinical trial design, regulatory process, and intellectual property. Candidates should have a strong familiarity with the biotech and health care industry.

Summary of key responsibilities:

  • Work closely with an analyst on the production of research publications
  • Conduct primary research from industry and financial sources
  • Create and maintain financial models and industry databases
  • Generate tables and graphs
  • Compile and evaluate company and industry data
  • Meet with company management teams and interview company customers, and competitors
  • Assist in the publication of research

Qualifications (must have):

  • Completion of a Bachelor or Master’s degree in a financial/accounting/business discipline
  • Completion of Level I of the CFA Program
  • In-depth understanding of accounting concepts, financial modeling, and financial statement analysis
  • Outstanding knowledge of Healthcare and Biotech markets
  • Must be able to accommodate a varied work schedule to accommodate workload as it arises
  • Must be able to work productively in a remote setting
  • Strong work ethic as the associate is entrusted to publish timely and accurate research to clients
  • High attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Strong English writing and communication skills

Qualifications (preferred):

  • Working towards or have completed higher education (PhD/MD) preferably in the Life Sciences field 
  • Familiarity using Bloomberg and/or Refinitiv
  • Work experience in the Life Science sector
