What you’ll accomplish with us
As an Underwriter, you will be at the core of our mission. Your key responsibilities will include:
Assessing risks related to individual life insurance, critical illness, and disability insurance applications in order to make appropriate and competitive underwriting decisions;
Analyzing medical and non-medical information to identify potential risks and issues;
Adopting a holistic approach to risk assessment;
Applying underwriting guidelines and procedures to make informed decisions;
Ensuring accuracy and adherence to service standards and timelines throughout underwriting processes;
Communicating with internal and external stakeholders to obtain additional information or clarify issues related to underwriting decisions;
Collaborating with multiple departments to ensure efficient execution of administrative processes.
What could accelerate your success in this role
We’re looking for someone who:
Has a minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in medical underwriting;
Holds a college or university degree; ALU and FLMI designations are considered assets;
Is recognized for strong analytical skills and sound judgment;
Stands out for the ability to clearly explain and simplify complex concepts;
Demonstrates strong negotiation skills;
Has a strong customer focus and a continuous improvement mindset;
Has a strong command of French, both spoken and written;
Has an intermediate level of English proficiency, as the role requires weekly exchanges (30–50% of the time) of information necessary for understanding and processing complex underwriting cases with English‑speaking partners in the Individual business sector.

Compensation
The typical hiring range for this position is $70,000 to $90,000 CAD per year. The base salary offered may vary depending on knowledge, skills, years of experience, and internal equity related to the role. At iA, we are committed to offering a fair, equitable, and market‑based compensation structure. Our market data is updated annually to reflect current market conditions.
