Managing Director, Head of Sales (Capital Markets)


iA Wealth Capital Markets Institutional Equities division is focusing on Canadian-listed companies, with a full-service offering including research, sales, trading and investment banking, providing value-added service to both our corporate and institutional clients.

We are seeking an exceptionally well-connected sales professional with proven success in implementing investment strategies, building strong relationships with clients and a passionate people leader who empowers her or his team members. In this role, you will have a tremendous opportunity to expand and build your own network of institutional clients in various regions in Canada and the USA.

The Managing Director, Head of Sales, Capital Markets is part of iA Wealth and reports to the Managing Director, Head of Equity. The Head of Sales role is responsible for developing and executing the sales strategy for Capital Markets Group by developing a sales platform supported by an efficient team that creates focus, discipline and standardization across the sale of publicly traded capital markets product solutions across private wealth and institutional distribution channels. The successful candidate will be responsible for increasing internal participation, broadening the client base and establishing a repeatable, scalable process for revenue expansion. As a leader, she or he will be in charge of a team of 3 to 5 people.   • People leadership:

  • Lead, coach and evaluate a team of up to 5 sales professionals

  • Drive people performance and develop a culture of alignment and success

  • Sales:

  • Implement strategic initiatives to improve operational efficiencies of individual groups within the Capital Markets

  • Partner with financial advisors and institutional investors to ensure all are aware of our capital markets ideas, products, and services.

  • Co-manage existing client coverage while also cultivating a strong pipeline of new business opportunities

  • Promote, present, and deliver salient ideas and opportunities across the capital markets product spectrum, including equities, fixed income, fx, and private placements.  

  • Coordinate regular business development meetings to provide investment updates and market commentary across the distribution chain.

  • Effectively capture activity and metrics across the business, including meeting calendar, event participation and contributions, educational series development etc.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with institutional clients; generate leads and develop an equity sales pipeline

  • Provide best execution for client orders by implementing specific trading strategies and making real-time trading strategy recommendations in regard to the client’s investment objectives

  • Establish point of contacts between groups and individuals to increase account coverage and promote and sell research products and banker deals

  • Products & Partnerships:

  • Develop strong working relationships with Execution desk to be dialed into prevailing market trends and help develop and disseminate meaningful capital markets ideas and initiatives

  • Drive Institutional trading revenue from strategic accounts

  • Ability to prospect for new clients and establish new revenue-generating relationships with portfolio managers


  • College degree required; advanced degree (MBA) or professional designations (CFA) preferred

  • Minimum of 15 years of capital markets sales, trading or investment management experience

  • Experience or ability to develop teams, acquire talent, and mentor associates

  • Deep understanding of product structure and fund mechanics

  • Exceptional leadership, team building, communication, and presentation skills

  • US registration - Series 7 (or 37/38) and Series 63 required

  • Completion of CSC, CPH

  • Ability to work in a time sensitive environment and to multitask

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with multiple locations

  • Proactive personality with ability to learn quickly

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience in Canadian small cap securities is advantageous

  • Solid work ethics and high level of motivation
