PURPOSE AND ACCOUNTABILITY
Reporting to the Special Markets Solutions (SMS) Regional Director, the Sales Manager is responsible for the development and maintenance of the special risk portfolio in the territory of Quebec. This includes the retention and growth of an existing block of business with existing brokers and consultants, as well as seeking and developing new opportunities. The position is based in our Montreal office and will require travel on a regular basis. The core functions of the position are sales (70%), service (20%) and administration (10%).
The sales function of the role will require you to build new relationships with brokers and third party administrators to position the company as the preferred provider and to promote and increase penetration of special risk group insurance products. This will require regular on-site visits where you’ll be assisting brokers/consultants in developing sales opportunities. In addition, you’ll need to sustain and develop the existing portfolio of business. You’ll be reviewing all policies prior to renewal, confirm that the information on file is current and confirm that the rate is reflective of risk and claims experience. In joint case situations, you may be required to coordinate and work with critical illness and customer service team members.
You’ll perform sales servicing on both new and existing accounts. This includes but is not limited to product explanations, endorsements, claims issues, communications and more. You’ll be working in conjunction with other SMS sales staff to provide feedback on issues specific to the respective markets – products, services, support networks, administration issues, etc. To be successful, you’ll need to confer with marketing at Head Office and utilize administration, actuarial and claims support services.
In conjunction with the regional director, office manager and underwriting supervisor you’ll develop rates that reflect risk, are competitive and will not jeopardize profitability. You’ll be required to gather all relevant information and prepare quotations – you’ll be administratively supported by a bilingual team in Toronto – and review all policies prior to their renewal.
• undergraduate degree at an accredited university or college, preferably in business/commerce, with a emphasis in marketing.
• CEBS or FLMI; or a willingness to complete CEBS or FLMI within three years
• 3 years’ experience in special risk or group life and health
• 2 years’ sales experience

• bilingual (English/French) and language skills are mandatory
