What injuries are covered by accident insurance?
The injuries covered vary depending on the coverage selected. They can include fractures, loss of use of a limb, dismemberment and many others. Disability in the event of an accident as well as hospitalization and medical care costs can also be covered.
Why would I need accident insurance if I am already covered by provincial health insurance?
Accident insurance is a complementary coverage to provincial health insurance. Provincial health insurance does not cover the additional costs associated with an accident, such as physiotherapy, home care, medical equipment, etc. In addition, accident insurance allows you to receive benefits that are not deducted from those you may receive from another source, such as group insurance or a government plan.
I already have disability insurance. Why would I need accident insurance?
Disability insurance allows you to receive income replacement benefits so that you can maintain your standard of living while you are disabled. It does not cover additional expenses incurred as a result of the accident, such as rehabilitation, home care, etc.
Accident insurance is therefore an ideal complement to your disability insurance, as it helps cover these costs.
Is the cost of my accident insurance tax deductible?
No, the cost of accident insurance is not tax deductible.
How many times can I use my accident insurance to make claims?
You may make claims as long as the policy is in force and the maximum benefit amount has not been reached.
When can I make a claim?
You must make your claim as soon as you are diagnosed with an injury covered by your insurance. Depending on your coverage, you may have a limited number of days to make your claim. Refer to your policy or your advisor for more details.
Are the benefits I receive from my accident insurance taxable?
No, the benefits paid to you are not taxable.
