Daneshvar Rohinton – Explorer of history

A personal childhood interest that benefits us all today
It’s no wonder that today he’s a highly regarded, brilliant commentator for BNN Bloomberg’s Market Outlook segment, which he used to watch religiously back in the day!
“Through my reports, I want to give people the straight facts and pass on my knowledge with transparency and honesty. I’m not looking to be strategic by withholding information. On the contrary, I’m betting that people will appreciate this candor and turn to iAGAM for their investments when the time comes to invest.”
Dan began his media appearances around 2017, when he was a portfolio manager for a competing firm. When he made the move to iA Financial Group, he retained his position as a commentator. Obviously, it’s a great selling point for iAGAM, which can raise its profile with investors.
Even if this mandate sometimes adds to a very busy schedule, Dan manages to juggle his various responsibilities, including that of father to a young and growing family.
“My wife and I have three young children, including a newborn/two toddlers and one soon to be born, so there’s never much respite in our house. My young daughter often wakes me up at around 5:30 am, so I take the opportunity to do my morning reading of the markets before helping the kids get ready for school or daycare. Early in the evening, I also devote two precious hours to spending time with them, and I end the day by doing some light work, so as not to fall behind the next day.”
When passion leads to execution
Dan is perfectly at home in a learning organization such as ours.
“In my early years after university, when I was working in accounting, I was always questioning my investment colleagues about where the markets were heading. I wanted to know everything! Clearly, my interest lay in this industry. And today, I feel privileged to learn about the history of the markets every day, in order to identify future trends. Honestly, I don’t feel the work in what I do. I feel that I’m learning every day and that the fruit of my market readings is useful to iA and, what’s more, to our clients.”
Moreover, Dan is a well-liked member of the iAGAM team. He is also very grateful to have been able to continue working with his colleagues Lucas Michael and Oliver Shao, who also migrated to iAGAM at almost the same time as he did. This is synergistic expertise dating back to 2020, the continuity of which is in itself a great achievement and a guarantee of success for the future.
“Of course, iAGAM is proud to have won a Lipper Fund Award in 2024 for its funds’ strong performance, but the greatest achievement, in my eyes, is that we are all steadily building a strong team together that is proving its worth. It’s our methodical execution of the game plan with the right players that makes us successful.”
Dan also admires this emphasis on mutual contribution within the team of Jean-René Adam, Managing Director, Head of Investment Funds, Public Equities and Global Trading.
“We come in with fresh perspectives from the outside, and Jean-René, with his years of experience at iA, teaches us the full range of possibilities open to us within the organization. It’s the best of both worlds!”
Pursuing his story through History
A Torontonian by birth, Dan has travelled across Canada from east to west for work, but vows to travel with his family once his three daughters are grown.
“For the time being, my wife and I spend most weekends with our respective parents and siblings, who are close by. In fact, I’ve moved back to the neighbourhood where I grew up. Our 14- and 16-year-old nieces adore their little cousins. It’s a beautiful relationship to nurture… even if they’re introducing them to Tik Tok a little early!”
Open to the world and its history, scouring the markets with every reading, Dan will continue to probe the past to better predict the future. Who knows? Perhaps there’s a 10-year-old out there right now avidly listening to his advice—perhaps a future iA employee—eager to understand the world and the inner workings that makes it go round. It’s certainly believable!
