As part of our team you will work closely with developers, system administrators, business units and 3rd party entities to design and support mission critical database and software applications to enable business objectives. This role is cross-functional and includes identifying requirements, designing new software modules, modifying existing software to fix errors or improve performance, and assisting with successful user adoption of these systems.
Due to the current COVID-19 situation, initially this position will involve remote work with the expectation that the incumbent has a suitable home workspace and internet connection. The position will likely evolve into a mixed remote/in-office role which may be filled at our Kitchener, Toronto, Calgary, Burnaby or Quebec locations.
What you will do:
Develop stable, reliable and effective software solutions using the Microsoft suite of development tools.
Optimize, troubleshoot, debug, maintain and improve existing databases and applications.
Liaise with business units and partners to identify requirements.
Write technical documentation related to the design and use of the software and related systems.
Actively seek ways to improve business software processes and interactions.
Provide data management support to users.
Assist with successful user adoption of systems.
Who you are:
You are an experience, qualified software developer with excellent problem-solving abilities. You have outstanding interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work effectively within a team environment. You are able to see the "big picture" while working on individual system components.
Effective communication skills and the ability to multitask and context-switch are essential along with the ability to work with business users to understand and document requirements prior to developing solutions. The ability to work in an environment where requirements are not always 100% known is key, as is an open-minded approach to direction changes mid-stream.
What we are looking for:
Degree or Diploma in a computer related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience in a related field
3+ years combined experience as a software developer
Proven experience as a Microsoft database developer (SQL or MS Access)
Proficiency with Microsoft office suite of products (Access, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
Experience developing complex database queries and complex reporting
Experience with one or more .Net languages (VB, C# etc.)
Strong verbal and written English communication skills
Financial industry experience is strongly preferred
Ability to drill down to the root essence of a requirement
Excellent problem-solving attitude with creativity
Exceptional troubleshooting and debugging abilities
Outstanding collaboration and communication skills are essential
Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing priorities as necessary
Excellent time management, prioritization, and organizational skills
Proven accuracy and attention to detail
Bilingualism in English and French would be an asset
