The General Fund and Fixed Income Portfolio Management sector is looking for a Senior Analyst, Research, North American Corporate Bonds to join its team.

You will cover North American public companies and will have a direct influence on our portfolios. You will be responsible for analyzing and monitoring issuers and giving portfolio managers investment recommendations. This is your opportunity to join a high-performance team and contribute to the public corporate bond portfolio investment strategy for general and investment funds totalling nearly 15 billion dollars.

Your duties will include:

  • Acting as a leader in covering industries belonging to various North American bond benchmark indexes (FTSE, BBG)
  • Carrying out fundamental analyses of North American public companies and providing investment recommendations to portfolio managers
  • Integrating ESG criteria into fundamental analysis and investment decision-making processes
  • Designing and validating companies’ financial measures, analyzing their financial statements and estimating credit risk
  • Providing your assessment of the fundamentals of issuers under your responsibility and ensuring that they are monitored (quarterly results, credit events, etc.)
  • Monitoring the credit spreads of public corporate bonds and analyzing various relationships in order to help outperform Canadian and US market benchmark indexes
  • Meeting and discussing with managers from issuing companies and their representatives
  • Attending conferences, seminars and other events in North America to keep abreast of industry trends
  • Analyzing market trends and their impacts on the various industries and issuers in the portfolios
  • Giving recommendations on value-added credit strategies with the aim of meeting clients’ needs and exceeding benchmarks
  • Developing and maintaining a network of securities brokers, external analysts, credit agencies and other capital market stakeholders
  • Working with a multidisciplinary team of investment, actuarial, accounting, compliance and risk monitoring professionals to validate the strategies awaiting implementation

Desired profile:

Core competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or a related field
  • Advanced understanding of fundamental analysis
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills and the desire to collaborate with colleagues, other teams and vendors to establish relationships and to efficiently and quickly resolve problems
  • Excellent command of French and English (oral and written) for frequent interaction with French- and English-speaking portfolio management colleagues and to prepare analyses and investment recommendations
  • Proficiency in Office Suite

Preferred competencies:

  • Five or more years of experience in a similar position or sector
  • CFA Charterholder (or in progress)
  • Master’s degree in a finance-related field is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of the Bloomberg environment and advanced Excel features
