Infrastructure/Backend Developer

We are seeking a skilled Infrastructure/Backend Developer to join our team as a developer of in-house systems and platforms, including PPI’s commission system.

The successful candidate will have a proficient understanding of cloud architecture, infrastructure-as-code, software development, GitOps, CI/CD, IaC, IAM, security principles, automated testing and observability tools and methodologies. They will work closely with PPI’s Infrastructure, Security, IT Operations, and Development teams to implement and maintain continuous integration (CI) and continuous deployment (CD) environments to securely deploy in-house developed applications onto appropriately provisioned Cloud Infrastructure.
 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and enhance PPI’s commission system in accordance with cybersecurity policies and DevSecOps methodology.

  • Responsibilities include managing data feeds, maintaining back-office databases, providing reporting and Macro/Power queries, maintaining converter and decryption tools for carrier feeds, and enhancing the platform for additional functionality.

  • Provide similar support for other systems and tools as identified by other departments, e.g. planned future phases of PPI’s secure Advisor Portal.

  • Investigate, identify, and implement AI, Robotics, and Machine Learning use cases to enhance the administration of new and existing insurance business. Collaborate with various departments to identify opportunities for AI-driven improvements and implement solutions that drive efficiency and innovation.

  • Automation of business and IT tasks, such as:
    o    User creation and deletion
    o    Reports (Power BI, Power Query, and DAX)
    o    Document indexing
    o    Software installation scripts
    o    Azure service deployment
    o    Build and maintain Sql Server Integration Scripts (SSIS)
    o    Build and maintain web APIs

  • Document the processes and best practices needed to design and deploy secure cloud infrastructure and applications at PPI, in order to pass on the knowledge to PPI’s in-house IT and Ops, Security and Development teams.

  • Assist with deploying code to production environment via infrastructure-as-code following change management processes and approvals.

  • Work with the security, infrastructure, IT operations, and development teams to ensure the right security, infrastructure, and deployment processes and controls are implemented for projects.

  • Support the build and implementation of continuous integration (CI) and continuous deployment (CD) environments and ensure proper security controls and procedures are embedded in development pipeline, such as automated code assessments.

  • Support and collaborate with the development and IT ops teams in the operationalization of project (e.g. Advisor Portal) DevSecOps, helping in application onboarding to the defined target operating model to achieve build and release automation.

  • For all DevSecOps initiatives, author written operating instructions and (as required) conduct operations peer training and mentoring; produce documented IaC (Infrastructure as Code) artefacts for all Cloud components to enable automated and repeatable deployment of infrastructure.

  • Liaise with 3rd party consultants (e.g. Accounting System) as required on the development, testing and deployment of upgrades.

  • Engage in actions that encourage, reflect and align with PPI’s ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) commitments to our Advisors, their clients and our employees.

Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Degree in computer science or related discipline.

  • 7 or more years of solid cloud development and architecture experience.

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, PowerBI, SQL.

  • Proficiency in C# (C++ preferable).

  • Proficiency with T-SQL including Stored Procedures.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in DevSecOps methodologies, technologies, and implementation.

  • Proficiency with testing and scanning tools (ex. SonarQube, Snyk, BlackDuck, etc.).

  • Hands on experience working with monitoring/observability tools and with GitOps.

  • Strong understanding of DevSecOps process and governance.

  • Understanding of branching strategies and value stream management.

  • Exemplary interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships and work harmoniously with multiple teams.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proficiency in documentation.

  • Experience in a financial services or insurance environment will be an advantage.

The expected salary range for this position starts at $120,000 and will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and skill set.
