Description

Invest in yourself. It happens here. We’re looking for a strategic leader that has a passion for audit. As the Director or Manager of Risk Management, you’ll serve iA American in 4 areas including risk management, audit oversight, financial statement analysis, and special projects.  You’re a big picture thinker who’ll continue to develop our risk management and audit programs. In addition, you’ll work closely with clients to ensure the adequacy and effectiveness of our internal controls. Our ideal candidate will work in Dallas, Austin, or Albuquerque. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Risk Management – 40%

  • Oversees the design and application of a risk management framework for iA American Warranty Group (“Company” or “iAAWG”) respecting the iA Financial Group (“iA”) standards in accordance with the Company’s Enterprise Risk Management (“ERM”) Policy.

  • Fosters an integrated risk management approach through coordination with other functions (such as Internal Audit, IT Security, and Compliance) to engage stakeholders at all levels across business units to achieve input, buy-in, and alignment on methodology and approach.

  • Performs independent testing and monitoring of key compliance-related requirements and controls.

  • Develops IAAWG risk dashboard reporting in conjunction with Chief Underwriting and Risk Officer to provide on-demand oversight of enterprise risks.

  • Advises iAAWG Risk Management Officer and process owners regarding risk management issues in the division and supports Audit Committee reporting regarding ERM.

  • Raises awareness and ensures training of employees of iAAWG in risk management matters and 3 Lines of Defense Model, particularly those engaged in high-risk activities.

  • Reports to the iAAWG Risk Management Officer of any tolerance excess in a timely manner.

Audit Oversight – 40%

  • Oversees processes to ensure compliance with affiliated insurance company reporting and funding policies, which may include personal and/or staff examination of client records, reports, operating practices, and related documentation.

  • Oversees completion of audit program and documentation of audit tests and findings.

  • Coordinates with iA Internal Audit department in monitoring of recommendation implementation and timely completion of deliverables.

  • Communicates audit findings and discusses audit findings with client.

  • Periodically updates audit programs and audit questionnaire, with staff support.

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending IIA workshops, meetings, and reviewing professional publications.

Financial Statement Analysis – 15%

  • Periodically assesses the quality of clients’ financial statements.

  • Analyzes the financial statements by calculating various ratios related to profitability, liquidity, debt load, and stockholders’ equity.

  • Ensures ratio analysis for each client is recorded in a financial analysis spreadsheet.

  • Assesses client profitability and risk in consultation with staff and management team.

  • Reviews results of the analysis with DAC management.

  • Reviews problem areas with the client and follows-up for resolution.

Special Projects – 5%

  • As assigned by management and, with approval, as recommended by the incumbent.

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business administration or related area; Master’s Degree desirable.

  • At least five to ten years of risk management or progressive audit work experience, including at least three to five years of people and project management experience.

  • Audit-related certification such as CIA or CISA preferred.

  • Experience within the service contract or insurance industry with knowledge of the related regulatory environment is a strong plus.

  • Knowledge of contract liability insurance business and clients’ business processes in order to understand the risks involved.

  • Knowledge of company products or ability to quickly learn.

  • Strong business acumen; including a strong management mindset and understanding of important business issues and functions.

  • High level of emotional intelligence; self-awareness, self-control, motivation, empathy and social skills.

  • Ability to lead and support change, both procedural and organizational.

  • Strong familiarity with productivity tools such as Microsoft Office Suite.
