Changes in the coverage of pharmacy services in Quebec
News Release
Since January 25, changes to the coverage of certain services offered by Quebec pharmacists have been in effect.
Indeed, the Quebec Ministry of Health and Social Services has announced several changes regarding the reimbursement of certain services that were previously covered by public or private drug insurance plans.
In practical terms, for private plans, this means that certain services will now be reimbursed directly by the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ), while other services will be reimbursed entirely by private group insurance plans. Prior to January 25, 2021, the plan member was charged a deductible or coinsurance fee.
The services below (non-exhaustive list) will continue to be covered by private group insurance plans and will be reimbursed entirely. This means that plan members will no longer have to pay a deductible or coinsurance regardless of the level of reimbursement provided under their group insurance plan.
- Extension of a prescription beyond 30 days
- Prescription of laboratory analyses
- Case management after hospitalization
- Administration of a drug to demonstrate its appropriate use
- Therapeutic drug substitution
- Modification of a drug therapy
- Etc.
Please note that our claims adjudication system has already been modified to manage these changes and that this will be transparent to your plan members.
