The Registered Product Specialist is the subject matter expert on all matters related to registered plans administration. She or he is also responsible for research, reporting and client interaction. The Registered Product Specialist reports into the Director of Mutual Funds Trade Processing.
SUBJECT MATTER EXPERTISE: Serve as subject matter expert on matters related to registered plans (including RSPs, RIFs, locked in plans, TFSAs and RESPs) and registered plans administration. Serve as lead in researching and acquiring relevant information as it relates to the impact to IA Clarington (and with emphasis on Business Ops) of the introduction, development and implementation of new products, registered plans and changes brought about by new legislation or regulations.
COORDINATION - Coordinate and liaise with the Trustee of our Registered Products and various other departments within operations (including Compliance, Operations, Client Admin and Client Services), external partners/service providers such as CRA, HRSDC and our third party service provider to identify, resolve and administer potential issues, implement enhancements and changes necessary to ensure compliance and efficiency.
RESEARCH – Serve as lead resource and/or assist in the formulation of responses and solutions to queries in the areas of registered plans including queries related to QROPS, Estates and Locked In plans. The specialist will be responsible for studying and understanding the possible impact of regulatory changes and serve as a resource in the any relevant implementation i.e. update P&P, change applicable documentation, and assist in the development of the training program or module the relevant individuals to ensure the plans are being administered accordingly.
ESCALATION AND SUPERVISION - From time to time, the specialist may also be called upon to assume responsibilities and assist in the daily workload supervision, administration, processing and quality control of registered plans in accordance with departmental standards, policies, and procedures. As a Subject Matter Expert, the specialist also assumes responsibility for directly answering or assisting in responding to internal and external clients' inquiries. The specialist will also be responsible for investigating and resolving escalated issues or exceptions as it pertains to registered plans.
REPORTING AND FILE TRANSMISSION - The Registered Product specialist will personally undertake and/or oversee, the transmission and receipt of electronic files with external partners as it pertains to RESP (filing with HRADC, CRA); the specialist will also work and coordinate with the tax reporting specialist to meet all reporting requirements for other registered products.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
At least 5 years experience related to processing, registered products (including RESP’s) administration in the mutual fund industry
Technical knowledge of registered plans including legislation and filing requirements governing such plans; Knowledge and expertise in the administration of RRSP, RRIF, LIF/LIRA/LRSP, TFSA and RESP, Estates etc. and mutual funds in general
Previous experience in dealing with trustees, CRA (as well as 3rd party providers) highly preferred
Previous supervisory experience highly desirable
Experience with IFDS iFAST and AWD applications an asset Completion of IFIC Operations Course or CSC preferred
Must possess intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and Outlook a must; familiarity with using large and complex financial database systems; ability to learn inquiry functions in back office processing systems
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; superb customer service skills with the ability to communicate information effectively
Able to work in a high-volume environment with an extremely demanding timeframe
Bilingual (French/English) verbal and written communication skills would be an asset
