Frequently Asked Questions

You must hold a valid driver's license and be at least 16 years old to drive a four-wheeler off-road vehicle. Drivers under 18 must also have a training certificate.

For UTVs (side-by-side), drivers must be at least 18 years of age.

You must carry your insurance policy with you at all times when riding an ATV, just as you would when driving a car or motorcycle. You must also have your driver's license, registration certificate, training certificate (if applicable) and a document showing your right to access Fédération Québécoise des Clubs Quads open_in_new trails, if required.

You must wear a helmet when driving an all-terrain vehicle. If it doesn't include a visor, you'll need to wear goggles too. And although not mandatory, gloves, chest protectors, protective clothing, etc. are highly recommended given the nature of off-roading activities.

For starters, think about a car or motorcycle. Your ATV needs to have the same basic equipment. Headlight, taillight and brake light, rearview mirror, speedometer and braking system are just some of the must-haves.

You are not allowed to drive your 4x4 on public roads, except in rare instances. For example, you can cross a public road to continue on a trail. You can ride on some roads if it’s posted on the road signs.
