The Senior Director, Integrated Risk Management reports to the Vice President and Chief Risk Officer and is a member of the Risk Management and Compliance Group’s leadership team.
The Senior Director is responsible for developing a comprehensive and integrated view of all current and emerging risks affecting iA Financial Group, and for ensuring alignment with risk management leaders and sector heads. They are also responsible for aligning integrated risk management strategies with the organization’s strategic priorities.
Additionally, they actively contribute to the development, implementation, and promotion of a risk-aware culture across all business practices, particularly through relationships with the organization’s sector risk leaders.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a comprehensive and holistic view of all current and emerging risks affecting iA Financial Group
- Define, implement, and maintain the governance framework for integrated risk management, including strategic, emerging, and cross-functional risks such as climate risk, considering the evolution of strategy, activities, and risk limits
- Oversee the establishment of the organization’s risk appetite and tolerance
- Monitor the application of policies and governance frameworks to enable the Chief Risk Officer to provide an independent and informed opinion on iA Financial Group’s risk management, particularly regarding strategic risks
- Lead the development of standards, methodologies, and cross-functional risk management tools for effective deployment across sectors
- Maintain and evolve the governance structure with sector risk leaders, including communication and accountability
- Lead and enhance the governance structure supporting risk and compliance communication, awareness, and reporting
- Ensure the development, maintenance, and implementation of a risk and compliance awareness and training program for stakeholders, and coordinate communications in these areas
- Oversee and supervise special or cross-functional risk management mandates, in coordination with internal and external stakeholders
- Coordinate reporting to the Executive Risk Management Committee and the Board’s Risk, Governance, and Ethics Committee
- Represent iA in communications with the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) and other regulatory authorities as needed, on topics under the team’s responsibility
- Address recommendations from the AMF or auditors, develop action plans, and ensure follow-up and timely execution
Regarding team leadership and management responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development and implementation of iA’s strategic direction in risk management
- Develop and lead team members to support various business needs
- Ensure compliance with iA Financial Group’s processes, standards, and practices, and improve team work methods
- Ensure availability, planning, and control of financial, material, and human resources within the team, and report to management
Profile Sought:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, actuarial science, or a related field
- Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or MSc. in a business-related field
- FRM, PRM, CERA, CFA, or Fellow designation (FICA, FSA) is an asset
- Minimum 10 years of experience in risk management within a regulated financial institution, preferably an insurer, including at least 5 years in a management role
- Excellent knowledge of risk management practices
- Good understanding of financial risks (insurance, credit, market, liquidity) and non-financial risks (strategic, operational, legal and regulatory, reputational)
- Proficiency in spoken and written French
- Advanced proficiency in English, as the role involves providing guidance and reporting to English-speaking risk management leaders in Canada and the U.S. via email and videoconference on a weekly basis
- Strong ability to build and maintain effective business relationships across organizational levels in a collaborative spirit
- Proactive in identifying current and future needs
- Ability to quickly grasp strategic issues
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills
- Good knowledge of iA’s financial products and services is an asset
- Good knowledge of iA’s business and corporate sectors is an asset
