The Global Dividend Team within our Fundamental Equities group is looking for an Analyst (Co-op) to join its team. The Analyst will work closely with other members of the team to conduct fundamental equity research on a covered sector and provide investment ideas for the portfolios. The hiring team manages ~$4B in assets across Canadian, US, and global mandates; the team’s goal is to manage concentrated portfolios of high-quality companies at a low annual turnover. 

Responsibilities

  • Working alongside senior members of the team, identify relevant value chains for the covered sector. The Analyst will evaluate where profit pools have historically and are expected to accumulate, to establish a watchlist of high-quality companies to cover or propose as investments.
  • Conduct independent analysis and express the qualitative understanding of businesses into quantitative drivers within a financial model.
  • Value businesses and provide written reports documenting the investment thesis as well as any changes or confirmations to the original thesis.

Desired profile

  • Motivation, curiosity, intellectually honesty, attention to detail, and an ability to think logically.
  • Relevant experience in understanding businesses and formulating investment theses; this can be obtained through prior work experience in equity research or asset management, or independently as a side project. We don’t look at experience in years; we consider the output.
  • You are currently enrolled in a university program.
  • You are available full time during the winter.

If you have sought out franchisee disclosure documents when trying to understand restaurant economics, tried to list a property to understand a potential host’s experience and economics using AirBnB, or otherwise tried to understand things that aren’t readily disclosed by companies, we are interested in meeting you. If you have changed your mind on something you believed strongly about because of disconfirming evidence, we are interested in meeting you.
