Major Contribution by Industrial Alliance to the Agir ensemble pour l'avenir Campaign Being Conducted by the Fondation universitaire de l'Université du Québec
Michel Rouleau, Honorary President of the Fondation universitaire de l’Université du Québec’s first fundraising campaign, is pleased to announce that Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services will make a major contribution in the amount of $100,000 to the foundation. The contribution will be used to create a fund – the Industrial Alliance Fund – the interest from which will be used to award scholarships to students attending member institutions of the Université du Québec university system.
"Education, and especially, university education, is a sector of activity that we hold close to our hearts," commented Yvon Charest, President and CEO of Industrial Alliance. "Today’s contribution announcement falls within the scope of our corporate donation policy that was adopted a few years ago and that particularly champions causes which favour development in the area of education, health and social services."
For his part, Pierre Lucier, who is President of Université du Québec, expressed his gratitude for Industrial Alliance’s support of the university and its member institutions. He stated that "to underline this major contribution, we’ve decided to create the Industrial Alliance Scholarship Program."
Michel Leclerc, President of the Fondation universitaire de l’Université du Québec, was also present at the contribution announcement. He pointed out that it was thanks to donations by responsible corporations such as Industrial Alliance as well as the commitment of business people like Mr. Charest that universities will be able to face the challenges presented by the knowledge-based economy. He hopes that Industrial Alliance’s generosity will serve as both a model and a catalyst for companies that recognize the importance of higher education in societal development.
Mr. Leclerc also presented the foundation’s objectives and the developmental priorities being pursued by the university, which include: awarding scholarships, encouraging socialization between students in a virtual campus, promoting successful studies, ensuring financial aid, the development of a virtual library, the use of new information technologies and encouraging openness towards other cultures.
