Position Summary 
IA Financial Group (IA), a Canadian-based multinational financial institution, is looking for a US Senior Tax Manager to build and lead the US tax department and manage all US tax matters including compliance, planning, and accounting (IFRS) of its US based entities. In this role, along with our Global Tax team, you’ll define and execute our US tax strategy, lead and build our US tax team, manage consultants, and partner with stakeholders across the organization to support our growing US business. 


As IA’s US Senior Tax Manager, you’ll work closely with finance leadership on strategic priorities. You’ll oversee a broad range of tax matters including U.S. federal, state and international income taxes, sales tax, employee-related tax, transfer pricing, accounting close and financial reporting. 


This position reports to our Global Tax Director and is based out of our Texas offices.  The job may be performed remotely as well, if needed We’re looking for someone to join us immediately. 
Position Description 

  • Build, lead and grow the US tax department; 

  • Actively manage computation of quarterly and year-end US income tax provisions and effective tax rate as well as related income tax financial statement disclosures of our US based entities and report to the Global Tax team; 

  • Support and work closely with the Global Tax team of the Canadian head office in the quarterly and year-end consolidated financial statements closing processes; 

  • Oversee completion of federal, international and state income tax returns including all related analysis and support; manage audits of federal and state income tax, sales tax, state and local filings; 

  • Manage quarterly reviews and year-end tax provision audits by the external auditor. 

  • Responsible for tax-related IFRS policies and procedures; 

  • Manage the implementation of US tax planning projects and the integration of target companies into IA’s tax operations process; 

  • Manage outside tax consultants and advisors and supervision of tax accounting staff; 

  • Monitor and develop internal controls over income tax reporting processes (Compliance with IFRS standards); 

  • Make meaningful contributions to development and training of the future US Corporate Tax Department staff; 

  • Work closely with the Global tax team in leading US tax accounting and tax return process improvements and documentation enhancements; 

  • Manage documentation of processes, procedures and technical issues; 

  • Lead and participate in special projects and/or initiatives, as needed; 

  • Serve as a liaison with Finance, Accounting, Treasury, Legal, lines of business and other internal partners to ensure appropriate management of tax reporting and risk; 

  • Other duties and projects as assigned. 

Knowledge & Experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Accounting or Tax. Master’s Degree in Business Taxation is preferred. 

  • CPA preferred; 

  • 10+ years of experience in taxation in a large corporate environment, Big 4 accounting firm, or a combination of both, ideally with experience in the insurance or financial services sector. 

  • Experience with and knowledge of life and warranty insurance tax accounting and IFRS expertise. 

  • Advanced technical proficiency in insurance statutory and tax accounting. 

  • Demonstrated problem solving, leadership ability and management experience. 

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to operate in multi-task and deadline driven environment, to work independently and to effectively manage staff. 

  • A clear, effective communicator who can run processes and meetings effectively while having the ability to explain complex concepts in a concise way. 

  • Sound knowledge of US federal and state income tax law as well as international and sales tax. 

  • Ability to organize information and workflows and support the team in developing and implementing technology tools and automation of process in a high-control environment
