Description

The Research Associate will assist the Analyst in conducting fundamental research on public companies in order to produce investment reports, recommendations and earnings forecasts.

The candidate will collect financial, economic and other statistical data from various sources including Bloomberg, Capital IQ, Thompson Reuters, government agencies, issuer filings, trade journals, databases and web based queries. Data collected will be entered into Excel and other programs to assist in building financial forecast models, charts, tables and other outputs necessary for the production of research reports. The Research Associate is also expected to carry out qualitative research on subjects such as competitive industry forces, issuer competitive advantages and management quality.

Summary of key responsibilities:
•Work closely with an analyst on the production of research publications.
•Conduct primary research from industry and financial sources.
•Create and maintain financial models and industry databases.
•Generate tables and graphs.
•Compile and evaluate company and industry data.
•Meet with company management teams and interview company customers, suppliers and competitors.
•Assist in the publication of research.

Qualifications

•Minimum one year of experience in energy research.
•Undergraduate Engineering degree or equivalent is an asset
•Masters degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or an MBA an asset
•Passion for finance and the capital markets.
•Strong work ethic as the associate is entrusted to publish timely and accurate research to clients.
•High attention to detail.
•Outstanding knowledge of current industry and financial news.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and Power Point.
•Strong English writing and communication skills.
•Completion of a financial designation such as the CFA/CPA program is considered an asset.
•Knowledge of Bloomberg, Eikon, Geoscout, Factset is considered an asset.
•Direct knowledge of Upstream, Downstream or Midstream Energy Business an asset.
