Transition: Ontario's OHIP+

News Release

As you know, the Ontario provincial government announced last June that it was making changes to OHIP+.

Private insurance plans will once again become the first payer for young people under 25 covered by a private plan.

Discussions regarding the terms of the transition are currently underway at the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC), in collaboration with the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA), of which iA Financial Group (Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services Inc.) is a member.

What is important to know

  • The effective date for the transition is planned for April 1, 2019.
  • Before April 1, 2019, eligible individuals must continue to submit their claims to OHIP+.
  • Effective April 1, 2019, eligible individuals will have to submit their claims to their group insurance provider.
  • Effective April 1, 2019, claims will be reimbursed based on the terms of your group insurance contract.

The details of this change and a FAQ will follow next month.
