New dental fee guide in Alberta: update
On November 22, the Alberta Dental Association and College (ADAC) released a revised version of its dental fee guide addressing concerns from key stakeholders. Remember that the ADAC had stopped publishing its annual dental fee guide in 1997 before producing a new version in August 2017.
As is customary in all other Canadian provinces and territories, iA Financial Group (Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services Inc.) is using the provincial guide to establish its reimbursement standard for each of the intervention codes. The revised fee guide has been implemented on January 1, 2018 for all groups with insureds in Alberta. Alberta's new dental rate guide is an important initiative that should help contain dental costs in this province, which are among the highest in the country.
Impact on contracts
To clarify our standard practice, here are the contract texts that are now included in all our new contracts. Although we are already applying this practice to all our in-force contracts, these texts will be updated only when the booklet is reprinted or when an amendment is made to the contract (whichever comes first).
