Update – New drug insurance plan for people under 25 in Ontario

News Release

The launch of OHIP+: Children and Youth Pharmacare, the new drug insurance plan for youth aged 24 and under, is still planned for January 1, 2018. This program will cover the costs of prescription drugs funded through the Ontario Drug Benefit program for youth aged 24 and under, regardless of family income and whether they have the right to private insurance.

Youth can obtain their prescription drugs for free simply by presenting their prescription and OHIP card. There are no deductibles or user fees.

Discussions are ongoing between all industry players to ensure a smooth transition to the new program. Please note that drugs not listed on the Ontario Drug Benefit Formulary and available via the Exceptional Access Program (EAP) will require special authorization. Once we have all the details, we will inform concerned insureds of the procedure to follow.

Rest assured that our priority is to help families access the care and medications they need while continuing to offer plans at an affordable cost.
