New Disability Guides

News Release

Disability management is a shared responsibility and it is in everyone’s interest to have a clear understanding of best practices at Industrial Alliance. In an effort to support stakeholders, we have developed three new Disability Management Guides.

These guides address the specific perspectives of plan members, managers and employers in addition to highlighting our disability management program. They were created to promote and provide information about our optimal practices for absence management, disability management and return to work, and to present the benefits and services available to support all parties if an illness or injury occurs.

The information presented in these guides is for general use and consideration and is applicable to the majority of groups, however may differ based on your specific type of organization.

Below is a short description of each of the three guides.

Disability management – Member’s guide

In this guide you will find:

  • Information on how to submit a disability claim 
  • The roadmap of the disability claim process and the roles and responsibilities of key persons 
  • Information on returning to work and the rehabilitation process FAQ 
  • We encourage you to provide an electronic copy of this document to members on disability.

Disability management – Manager’s guide

In this guide you will find:

  • Information on the attendance management program 
  • Roles and responsibilities of key persons Communication tips and guide 
  • Information on best practices to promote a gradual return to work 
  • A meeting guide to assist you during a plan member’s return to work

We encourage you to provide an electronic copy of this document to managers of members on disability.

Disability management – Employer’s guide

In this guide you will find:

  • The Industrial Alliance disability team’s roles and responsibilities 
  • The roadmap of the disability claim process 
  • Steps in the disability claim process 
  • Disability management tools 
  • Description of the disability claim forms 
  • Ongoing communication methods (including claims reports) 
  • Details about return to work and the rehabilitation process (including the Industrial Alliance rehabilitation team’s roles and responsibilities) 
  • An overview of the member and manager guides
