Second Update: Health Insurance Entry Requirement to Cuba

News Release

Since May 1, 2010, upon arrival at customs, travelers visiting Cuba must present proof of health insurance to cover medical care fees that could be incurred during their stay in Cuba.

The Cuban authorities accept the provincial healthcare card as proof of insurance. Upon arrival at customs, travelers simply have to present their card and their children's cards.

However, we would like to remind you that if your Industrial Alliance group insurance plan includes travel insurance with coverage for medical expenses, it complements the coverage provided by the provincial healthcare insurance and provides better protection.

To make entry into Cuba easier, travelers should carry:

A valid Canadian passport or visa A provincial healthcare card An Industrial Alliance group insurance card

You will no longer be obligated to present a personalized confirmation of coverage to enter Cuba.

In terms of travel insurance, Industrial Alliance has a partnership with CanAssistance, a Canadian health and travel assistance company duly recognized by the Cuban authorities, to help travelers. In case of medical emergency, travelers should dial 514 499-3747 (collect) as soon as possible to obtain assistance.
